Vinyl — The resilient one
Resilient flooring is a top choice for many people. Anything named resilient flooring is an artificial composite of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), plastic, rubber, linoleum, or now the latest entry into the field, modern vinyl! All of these have one thing in common (to varying degrees), and that is the ability to ever so slightly deform when you walk on them.
Deforming floors
Why would a deforming floor be a good thing? Believe it or not, this makes it super-resistant to slips and falls. More and more companies are employing vinyl flooring for their workstations, assembly lines, as well as throughout malls, offices and public buildings.
Its utility is demonstrated by far fewer accidental falls and injuries, and that means much lower claim payouts for their public liability insurance as a consequence. Businesses know a good thing when they see it, and they love vinyl floors.
A great choice
It’s relatively new to the housing market, but homeowners are catching on. They love how closely it resembles real wood, stone, or even metal, but more, how comfortable it is to walk or stand on, absorbing impacts and relieving leg and lower back stress. It behaves much like an anti-fatigue floor mat, by spreading the weight more evenly and allowing the micro-shifts in our stance so we don’t get tired as quickly. It has other advantages aside from being easy to clean and maintain. If a piece gets damaged it can be removed and replaced undetectably; no one will ever be any the wiser. Because the surface is "resilient" if you accidentally drop your fine chinaware, there’s a very good chance that it’s going to survive without any damage. Vinyl is an amazingly durable substance and the tiles or planks are remarkably easy to install. Tiles can simply be glued in place over top of old parquet flooring to give a fresh new look. Alternately, a "floating floor" of a wood or plastic substrate with a vinyl top can click together, similarly to laminate flooring, meaning the whole system is completely removable and reusable, requiring neither glue nor nails. To resurface a parquet floor necessitates sanding down the old wood to make a fresh surface, which must then be carefully re-sanded until it is utterly smooth, and finally, coated with several layers of polymer to make it durable. A week long project, rife with a choking powdered dust (wood flour), could be converted into an afternoon activity. The benefits are obvious.Request a consultation
Better than old vinyl
The technology for making vinyl has advanced substantially. Modern vinyl, manufactured from pure, virgin vinyl pulp is considered one of the healthier options since it is free of plasticizers and petrochemicals, and the least expensive and/or easiest to install among the hypoallergenic choices is vinyl, hardwood, cork and linoleum.
Years ago when you opened the packaging for a brand new inflatable vinyl pool or a beach ball, the product had a strange smell. Those Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs) have been eliminated so that there is no more smell or outgassing of anything even remotely toxic.
Pure linoleum is safe, too, but you must be careful since true linoleum is composed of linseed oil, natural pigments, wood flour, flax, jute, and powdered cork. The old linoleum from the 1950s actually contained asbestos, which means it is an environmental hazard than you might want to replace. Unfortunately, some modern linoleum manufacturers add petroleum distillates to their synthetic linoleum which can outgas for many months. Okay for normal humans—but hypersensitive people would
probably not fare as well.
If you have an outdoor pool and indoor hardwood, our Houston flooring people would probably suggest that vinyl flooring would make a great transition zone. This moisture resistant material can be a great choice if you get occasional incursions.
On a day to day basis, it is wonderful for kitchens, laundry rooms, recreation rooms, and dining rooms because it resists all the usual staining materials with ease. Being waterproof is just a bonus!
Although vinyl flooring is easy to install, it can be difficult to do so properly. To ensure that your vinyl is correctly fitted, the sub-floor must be prepared beforehand. Even if you are a DIY aficionado, let our professional flooring installation crew take care of this time-consuming job for you. We are more than happy to be at your service!
